With a keen eye for a horse and a unique selection process, Ryan prefers to buy horses with the potential to improve. A breeder and owner himself, Ryan revealed one of the keys to his success to the Thoroughbred Times in 1995. "One of my principles is that I wouldn’t buy a horse that I wouldn’t pay the training bills for myself." This integrity is the cornerstone of Mike Ryan Bloodstock.
A third-generation horseman from County Meath, Ireland, Ryan was lured to E.P. Taylor’s Windfields Farm in Canada in 1974 for his first Thoroughbred job on this side of the Atlantic. By 1979, he had founded his own bloodstock agency in Canada before settling in Lexington in 1981 to establish Mike Ryan Bloodstock.
While a main artery of Ryan’s business is selecting and purchasing young horses for a loyal clientele, Ryan also operates Top Yield Bloodstock which focuses on yearling pinhooks. Come share in the success!
