RECENT RUNNERS: NON-STOP STAKES SUCCESS!

October 18, 2004

Both stateside and abroad, runners purchased by Mike Ryan Bloodstock have been making an impact. REBUTTAL, one of the top 2-year-olds in England this season, was a $110,000 purchase at Fasig-Tipton July in 2003 and was resold earlier this year for $400,000 at Fasig-Tipton February. The Mr. Greeley juvenile broke his maiden impressively at Kempton Park in August, then placed in the prestigious Middle Park S.-G1 and the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef S.-G2. REBUTTAL was under consideration for the Breeders' Cup, but will instead stay in England to point toward a classic campaign starting with the Two Thousand Guineas-G1 next May.

Also in Great Britain, HAPPY AS LARRY broke his maiden at first asking at Lingfield on Oct. 15. The 2-year-old Yes It's True colt scored comfortably by 2 1/2 lengths over the all weather track. A $155,000 Fasig-Tipton July yearling purchase by Mike Ryan, HAPPY AS LARRY also was resold at Fasig-Tipton February and brought $525,000.

On this side of the ocean, Mike Ryan-purchased runners also are making their mark. SAINT LIAM put in one of the most courageous efforts of the year in a runner-up finish to the highly-regarded Ghostzapper in the Woodward S.-G1. He was beaten by just a neck. The $130,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling purchase by Mike Ryan is targeting the Cigar Mile-G1 on Nov. 27 at Aqueduct.

Another former $130,000 yearling purchase by Mike Ryan, this one at Keeneland September, is MY TRUSTY CAT. The multiple graded stakes winner captured the Honorable Miss H.-G2 at Saratoga this summer. After that win, she endured a troubled trip for a second by just a head in Saratoga's Ballerina H.-G1. Most recently, she was the runner-up in Keeneland's Thoroughbred Club of America S.-G3 on Oct. 17.

August 1, 2004

A recent issue of The Blood-Horse (July 17, 2004) contained a feature story on Mike Ryan. The article detailed Ryan's interests in the bloodstock business, focusing primarily on his tenure in the industry and his keen eye for buying and selling horses.

"In 2004 Ryan's pinhooking operation has hit gargantuan home runs that would be the envy of Barry Bonds," said The Blood-Horse's Lenny Shulman. "Two yearlings Ryan bought for $157,000 and $170,000 went for more than $3 million each at 2-year-old sales this year."
